Sunbula is a fair-trade organization dedicated to safeguarding and transmitting traditional
Palestinian embroidery and craft skills through artisan training, publications, and
museum-based research. By supporting the economic sustainability of traditional
craftsmanship and documenting its historical significance, Sunbula plays a vital role in
preserving Palestinian cultural identity and strengthening community resilience.
Major Activities
Fair Trade-Based Value Chain Development
Operating a fair trade system that ensures equitable compensation for traditional handicrafts,
thereby improving artisans’ economic well-being and strengthening their motivation to
continue practicing and transmitting their craft traditions.
Capacity-Building Training and Workshops Enhancing artisans’ professional skills through product development training that integrates contemporary design approaches, as well as business and entrepreneurship support.
Heritage Promotion and Marketing Activities Promoting the artistic and historical value of Palestinian handicrafts through exhibitions, trade fairs, and online platforms, while expanding access to domestic and international markets.
Research and Archiving of Traditional Craftsmanship Documenting and safeguarding traditional embroidery (Tatreez) and weaving techniques unique to local communities, supporting their continuity and contemporary reinterpretation while maintaining their cultural significance.
